In case you missed it, Google shook things up by accepting new words that go to the right of the dot. What does this mean? If you haven't already, you'll soon see legitimate websites that end in dot-photography and dot-fitness while browsing. We’ve talked about ensuring optimal online presence, now it’s time to get creative with your online presence.
If you own a business, now’s the perfect time to let your creative juices flow! Google says these fun additions won't impact your site's search ranking.
If you’re just browsing the web, those new words to the right aren't spam. And no, you're not crazy! They're real sites that are safe to browse and purchase.
Among other things, the use of creative domain names helps protect your brand, enhance awareness and recognition, and aids in promotional efforts. You can take advantage of creative Top Level Domains (TLDs) by aligning your website with a word - or words - that describe your business. (For example, if you’re a graphic designer, try .design or .designer.) If you want to use a creative TLD but maintain your legacy URL (this will ensure you maintain search rankings), redirect your old domain to the new one (or vice versa) to take advantage of customer searches and increase traffic.
